Rapper GloRilla found herself entangled in legal woes after being apprehended on felony charges of marijuana possession, stemming from an investigation into a burglary at her Georgia residence, authorities revealed.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home in the wee hours of Saturday morning, approximately 1:30 a.m., in response to an ongoing burglary. The authorities disclosed in a press statement, "It was alleged that three suspects had breached the premises and were in the midst of pilfering items when an armed resident took aim and fired at the intruders. The suspects scuttled away from the scene, seemingly unscathed by the gunfire. No injuries were reported amongst the household occupants."
The incident escalated as shots were fired, prompting Major Crimes detectives to intervene and investigate the premises. It was during this probe that deputies "detected a pungent aroma indicative of illegal narcotics," the sheriff’s office elaborated.
Subsequently, Drug Task Force agents were summoned to the scene and procured a search warrant for the residence. During their meticulous search, authorities uncovered "a substantial quantity of marijuana in plain sight within the master bedroom closet," they affirmed.
GloRilla, whose given name is Gloria Woods, was notably absent from her home during the burglary. Nonetheless, she voluntarily surrendered herself to the Forsyth County Jail on Tuesday, where she faced charges of felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. The rapper was subsequently released on the same day after posting a bond of $22,260.
"The homeowner is a victim of a grave crime, and we are steadfast in our pursuit to bring the perpetrators to justice," Sheriff Ron Freeman emphasized in a statement. "Concurrently, we are bound to uphold and enforce the law in all facets of this case."
The sheriff’s office affirmed that the investigation into the burglary remains vigorous and ongoing, as they relentlessly search for the suspects. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to GloRilla’s legal representatives for comment.
Despite the harrowing events of the burglary early Saturday morning, GloRilla went on to perform later that evening at the WNBA All-Star game in Indianapolis, displaying remarkable resilience amidst adversity.
