On Tuesday, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meghan Markle shared a light-hearted moment, playfully addressing rumors of a rift between them sparked by the "Shakespeare in Love" star's comment that she barely knew her Montecito neighbor. In an Instagram Story video during an "Ask Me a Question" segment, Paltrow, the founder of Goop, expressed her bewilderment, stating, "I honestly have no clue about this whole thing."
A curious fan inquired, "Are you aware of the so-called beef with Meghan Markle that social media is talking about?" Paltrow then smoothly turned her phone camera to the left, revealing Markle, who was sitting at her kitchen table, eating a slice of pie with a shrug, both bursting into laughter shortly after. Markle also shared the hilarious clip on her Instagram Story.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, the 52-year-old Paltrow admitted, "I don't know Meghan and Harry," who reside in Montecito, California as well. "I've met Meghan, and she seems really lovely, but we're not close at all," she clarified. "Maybe I should try to bypass their security and bring them a pie," she added whimsically.
Having transitioned into the lifestyle space after her acting career, Paltrow confessed to Vanity Fair that she wasn't very familiar with Markle's Netflix show, "With Love, Meghan," or her lifestyle brand, "As Ever," but expressed a willingness to support her. Commenting on the backlash Markle has faced, Paltrow said, "When there's buzz surrounding certain women in our culture, I always feel a strong urge to stand up for them."
"I was taught to view other women as allies, not adversaries. I believe there's plenty for everyone. Everyone deserves a shot at pursuing their dreams," she continued. Paltrow herself faced skepticism when she launched Goop, which has since flourished.
Over the weekend, fans speculated that Paltrow was subtly shading the Duchess of Sussex when she posted a cooking video on Instagram featuring her "cleaner twist on a traditional breakfast" that bore a resemblance to Markle's "With Love, Meghan" show. One commentator remarked, "Love this. No phony house, fake kitchen, artificial hair extensions, or fake friends—just your stunning, authentic self. It's refreshing to see!" Another joked, "With Shade, Gwyneth... Nice one!" Paltrow is known for her frequent #boyfriendbreakfast cooking videos.
