Halle Berry couldn't care less if her ex-husband David Justice remains hung up on the past. After David publicly cited her alleged lack of "motherly" instincts as the culprit behind their 1997 divorce, the Oscar-adorned actress deftly demonstrated her utter indifference to the former MLB star's opinion. Sharing snapshots from a recent beach getaway on Aug. 14, Halle—mother to Nahla, 17, with ex-beau Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo-Robert, 11, with ex-spouse Olivier Martinez—jokingly referenced David's remarks, captioning the images, "Phew…! Cooking, cleaning, and mothering—oh my!"
The Instagram posts depicted Halle basking in the sunlight, donning a bikini, sipping on wine, and cherishing moments with her lover, Van Hunt. Yet, amid this leisurely idyll, Halle remained very much "mom" on the trip, sharing a snapshot from behind, her arms enveloping what appeared to be her daughter Nahla. On the same day—her 59th birthday—Halle's children helped celebrate, prompting her to post a picture of a birthday envelope addressed to "mom" alongside a chocolate cake.
This post seemed to be a playful troll aimed at David, who had recently confessed in an interview that he held conventional views of marriage when they wed in 1993. Recalling the Aug. 7 episode of the 'All the Smoke' podcast, he said, "I wondered, ‘If we have kids, is this the woman I want to build a family with?’ At that time, being young, I noticed she didn't cook, clean, or exhibit traditional motherly traits—and our issues began to surface."
David, now 59, admitted that their marriage was never destined for longevity. "She proposed after knowing me for just five months," he noted. "I agreed, albeit halfheartedly. I didn't want to hurt her feelings by saying no."
Conversely, Halle is now thriving in her best life alongside Van, 55, with her past relationships serving as the stepping stones to her current bliss. "I manifested him," Halle revealed in a Feb. 18 interview on 'TODAY with Jenna & Friends,' acknowledging that her previous unions had taught her what she truly desired in a partner. "After three divorces, I finally understood what didn't work and realized I'd been telling the universe what I didn't want. So, I turned it around and manifested exactly what I did want."
