Hallmark actress Lyndie Greenwood bravely unveiled her diagnosis with breast cancer. On March 17th, the star of "Sleepy Hollow" posted a poignant selfie on Instagram, revealing the reason behind her recent social media silence. "Hey friends. I've been absent because I've been navigating some real-life challenges. The big C has hit hard—it's a complex and ever-evolving journey," she penned.
The 42-year-old actress directed her followers to her newly launched blog on Substack, a platform she created to chronicle her cancer battle and forge connections with others facing similar struggles. "Since receiving my diagnosis, I've wrestled with the idea of sharing on social media," she confessed. "Cancer is profound and multifaceted, whereas social media often only scratches the surface. I yearn to be genuine during this chapter of my life—anything less feels disingenuous and painful."
"This is the most significant ordeal I've ever faced, and I refuse to hide it," she said of her diagnosis. "I want to share my story with anyone who cares to listen, because sharing can forge bonds and provide solace through life's monumental moments."
In her blog, Greenwood elaborated that on September 12, 2024, she was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma—a breast cancer that originates in milk ducts and infiltrates surrounding tissues—after discovering a lump in her right breast. She was notified by her California-based doctor while in Canada to film a movie. Despite the diagnosis, she stayed to complete the project, describing it as "one of the most intense yet fulfilling experiences of my life." Upon returning home, she embarked on a grueling series of medical appointments, tests, and surgeries.
"I was assured that this cancer type is common among oncologists, and for the first time, I felt oddly reassured by the prospect of being deemed 'routine,'" she shared. "Unfortunately, reality hasn't been as seamless as we all hoped. Here I am, ending February with a bald head and numerous scars, some visible," she added.
Greenwood underwent a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction as part of her treatment plan. She is currently midstream in her chemotherapy regimen, consisting of four rounds spaced three weeks apart. Following chemotherapy, she anticipates a decade-long course of hormone-blocking medication.
"My prognosis remains very promising!!" she exclaimed. "I glimpse the finish line faintly in the distance. I envision all of you there, arms outstretched and palms greased for heartfelt high-fives."
After disclosing her health update, numerous followers and fellow celebrities flooded her post with heartfelt messages of support and healing energy. Actress Felicia Day penned, "Sending you all the love and healing energy I can. I'm heartbroken that you're going through this." Brittany Ishibashi added, "Visualizing complete wellness and sending an abundance of love!!!" Jill Marie Jones, star of "Girlfriends," commented, "Love You Sis!!! Sending you strength and healing energy."
