HBO Max is set to broadcast the first-ever scripted depiction of the catastrophic October 7th assault on Israel. The network has secured the exclusive U.S. distribution rights to "One Day in October." This limited series offers a poignant portrayal of Hamas's unexpected 2023 onslaught, which claimed the lives of 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals and led to the abduction of 251 others. Filmed on-site in Israel, "One Day in October" is rooted in real-life testimonies. The producers describe the project as a chronicle of “seven emotionally gripping and artistically interwoven narratives brimming with love, courage, sacrifice, and survival. Each episode delves into the human toll and resilience born amidst chaos—from families torn asunder to glimmers of hope rising amidst unspeakable tragedy, to incredible feats of bravery against all odds. The series vividly brings to life the experiences of the victims and survivors through a distinguished cast and an acclaimed creative team.”
The show is slated to premiere on October 7th, marking the two-year anniversary of the attack. Fernando Szew, President of Fox Entertainment Studios, reflected on the project: “The tragic events of October 7th left an indelible mark on all of us. From the outset, we approached this series with the utmost care, sensitivity, and urgency, ensuring that the stories were recounted with authenticity and reverence, honoring the victims and the heroic survivors.” He also highlighted that the team “has truly crafted compelling storytelling that we are proud to present.”
This four-episode series is a collaborative effort between Fox Entertainment Studios, yes TV, the New York-based production company Sparks Go, and Israel’s ZOA Films. “For me, film and television have always transcended mere entertainment; they are a means to bear witness. These are stories of ordinary individuals facing extraordinary circumstances,” said Daniel Finkelman, founder of Sparks Go. “In an era where truth is fragile, the most potent act we can undertake is to appeal to our shared humanity. My hope is that these narratives will touch hearts and ignite meaningful dialogue.”
The October 7th attack sparked a tragic and contentious war between Israel and Hamas that persists to this day. The conflict has raged for nearly 23 months, resulting in the deaths of 64,871 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Approximately 48 Israelis remain held hostage.
"One Day in October" is the brainchild of Daniel Finkelman and Oded Davidoff, with a cast that includes Swell Ariel Or (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem), Noa Kedar (The Malevolent Bride), Naomi Levov (Yona, On the Spectrum), Hisham Suliman (Fauda, Munich), Wael Hamdoun (Tahrir, Fauda), and Yuval Semo (The Good Cop, Elisha, Superdaddy).
