Hilary Duff is candidly discussing the current state of her relationship with her sister, Haylie. The "Mature" pop star, now 38, appeared on the latest episode of "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" and opened up about how she and Haylie, now 41, are not in contact at the moment.
"My sister and I don't speak," Hilary said, referencing the song "We Don't Talk" from her new album, "luck...or something." "And I think in my adulthood, I've come across more and more people who are experiencing this."
She continued, "As painful as it feels to share, when I decided to make this record, I could only talk about the things that I've gone through. There would be no purpose to making a record after 10 years than to face what it's been like."

"That's my truth," Hilary declared. "And I really worked hard to ensure that my lyrics accurately reflected my experience."
The musician and actress described "We Don't Talk" as a "very vulnerable song" and explained that not being in contact with Haylie is "a very raw part of my existence."
"I hope it's not forever, but it's for right now," Hilary continued.
Previously, in a February interview on CBS Mornings, Hilary spoke about the rift between herself and Haylie. At the time, host Anthony Mason asked Hilary if she hoped her sister would hear "We Don't Talk."
"I don't think that would help," Hilary replied. "I think I have to just exist as a person on my own and do what I want to do."
She continued, "I hope that for everyone who is where I'm sitting, you have to do what you want to do and what feels good for you. It's taken me a lot of time to get there and to live that way, without caring about the noise around it and just being myself."
"I don't know how she'll react to it," she said. "But it is a really personal part of my life that doesn't get to stay personal, so I might as well share how it is for me as an experience."
Hilary concluded, "That's all I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to say anything bad. It's literally just my experience, and that's really all I feel like sharing."
"luck...or something" was released on Friday, Feb. 20.
