Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's quest to secure a designer bag for their daughter, North West, ended in disappointment, according to a source. In the latest edition of Amy Odell's Back Row newsletter on Thursday, March 5, a former employee of the Beverly Hills Hermès boutique revealed that the Skims founder, 45, and the rapper, 48, who were married from 2014 to 2022, had failed in their mission to buy a bag for North, 12.

"Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted a Black Mini Kelly bag for North or something like that. And Hermès said no," the source claimed in the newsletter. "I have no idea why, but we were like, 'Oh, wow.'"
The source explained that the decision likely went through corporate as the brand didn't want a high-profile celebrity's child to be photographed with the bag. "So you’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so and so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool,’" the source shared. "But for some reason they didn’t want North West to have an alligator Mini Kelly."
While North may not have been able to add the Mini Kelly alligator bag - which can go for $72,000 or more on the resale market - to her collection, she does have an impressive collection of Birkins she can borrow from Kim, her aunts and grandma Kris Jenner. In 2014, the reality TV star revealed that North had even customized a Birkin bag with her own art.
"Kanye had a box [with an Hermes purse in it] and I opened it up and it was all painted really cool and on my computer was this message that said ‘Play’ and it was a video of my daughter sitting outside painting the purse," Kardashian told Us Weekly at the time. "I had thought it was this new artist who had painted this purse [but] it was my daughter. It was amazing."
