June "Mama June" Shannon has recently shared an update on her health journey. The former star of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" revealed that she has been facing some medical challenges over the past year. "I unexpectedly underwent a total hysterectomy last April, which was not something I anticipated," Mama June candidly told Page Six's Virtual Reali-Tea on March 3. "It was a scary experience for me because I had developed fibroid cysts that transformed into separate cysts, causing us to be concerned."
The 46-year-old mother further admitted that her worries were heightened after the tragic loss of her daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, in 2023, following a battle with cancer. "I was worried it might be ovarian cancer, considering what Anna had gone through," she continued. "I even shared my fears with my other children. It was a long time of uncertainty for me."

Since then, Mama June—who is also a mother to Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, and Jessica Shannon—has been "dealing with undisclosed medical issues that are completely separate from the menopause I'm experiencing," she shared. "Some days are a struggle for me, but it's nothing like [cancer]," she explained. "I tell people, 'We know it's not going to kill me, but it could leave me immobilized.'"
In addition to Mama June's health challenges, her daughters have been supporting each other in coping with Anna's death. "If I'm being honest, some days are better than others," Pumpkin told Virtual Reali-Tea in a joint family interview. "I still catch myself scrolling through Anna's TikTok page late at night, watching her old videos." Jessica added, "Or when we play games we used to do together, like Monopoly, her face pops up every time."
As for Honey Boo Boo herself, she finds comfort in remembering Anna whenever Warren Zeiders' song "Pretty Little Poison" is played. "It literally plays every time in the car without a doubt," Alana shared. "I let it play all the way through. You can't skip it."
