Radio Silence, the horror filmmaking banner renowned for breathing new life into the Scream franchise, has inked a deal with CAA, marking a shift from their previous home at UTA. This dynamic duo, consisting of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, recently helmed Universal's upcoming vampire thriller, Abigail, scheduled for release in 2024. Notably, producer Chad Villella has parted ways with the esteemed collective.
Radio Silence has left an indelible mark on the horror genre with their contributions to anthologies like V/H/S and Southbound. Their feature film debut, the supernatural horror Devil's Due, bowed in 2014 and exceeded expectations, grossing nearly $37 million against a $7 million budget. However, it was their 2019 black horror comedy Ready or Not that truly propelled them into the mainstream, raking in over $57 million on a modest budget of around $6 million.
This remarkable success paved the way for them to tackle the iconic Scream franchise, delivering two thrilling installments: Scream in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023. These films starred Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who subsequently stepped away from the franchise to lend their talents to Abigail, which also featured an ensemble cast including Barrera, Dan Stevens, and Kathryn Newton.
Currently, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are gearing up for the highly anticipated sequel to Ready or Not, reuniting with star Samara Weaving and Searchlight Pictures. With spring in their sights as the potential shooting season, excitement for this new chapter is palpable.
Both directors continue to be represented by Tara Kole of Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney Johnson Shapiro, as they navigate the exciting new phase of their career.
