Kid Cudi is reflecting on a turbulent chapter in his life. Nearly a year after the "Day 'n' Nite" musician testified against Sean "Diddy" Combs in his sex trafficking trial, he shared insights into his conversation with his 16-year-old daughter, Vada Mescudi, during the aftermath.
"I was all over the news with the Diddy trial, and all that stuff was going crazy," Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) told Kylie Jenner on the April 1 episode of his Big Bro podcast. "During that moment, I knew my daughter saw something online."

"I know she saw that stuff, and I can't protect her from it," the 42-year-old, who shares the teenager with ex-partner Jacqueline Munyasya, continued. "When something like that happens, it's huge news, and everybody's talking about it."
After taking the stand against Combs, who is currently serving a 50-month sentence for convictions on two prostitution-related charges, Cudi decided to sit down with Vada. "I had to explain," he said. "We had a conversation about it."
He admitted that it was difficult to navigate these topics with Vada. "She is the type who will see something," he explained, "and then not say anything to me because she feels like it's out of line."
With his daughter growing up in the spotlight, the Grammy winner understands that parenting is more complicated. "We're navigating something that only a few people really get a chance to do," he said to Kylie Cosmetics founder Jenner. "But it starts with us, right? It starts with the parents. You raise them, guide them, give them the rules of life, make sure they're not assholes."
Cudi testified against Combs due to his brief romance with the rap mogul's on-and-off ex, Cassie Ventura. He took the stand in May, alleging that Combs—who pleaded not guilty to all charges—had called him while breaking into his home in 2011 after learning about his relationship with Ventura.
"He said, 'What's up?' and I said, 'Motherf--ker, are you in my house?'" Cudi recounted, according to court transcripts viewed by E! News. "He said, 'I am here waiting for you.'"
When Cudi finally returned home, he testified that only the police were there. However, he alleged that his security cameras had been adjusted, his dog was "locked up in the bathroom," and "gifts were opened up on the counter." Combs has not publicly addressed the alleged break-in.
Cudi and Ventura ultimately broke up in early 2012, with the "Me & U" singer testifying that it was due to Combs' interference. "[There was] too much uncertainty if we continued to see each other," Ventura said during her testimony, per court transcripts. "Sean said he was going to hurt both of us."
