News that they had responded to an emergency involving "cardiac arrest." Subsequently, friends and rivals of the 71-year-old giant poured out their heartfelt condolences over this tragic news.

"The WWE is deeply saddened to announce the passing of legendary WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan," WWE wrote in a tribute post on Instagram on July 24th. "As one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture, Hogan helped propel WWE to global fame in the 1980s. WWE extends its heartfelt sympathies to Hogan's family, friends, and fans."

WWE Champion Ric Flair paid tribute to his long-time friend and most respected rival with a heart-wrenching message. "I am shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend @hulkhogan," the wrestler posted on Instagram, along with several photos of him with Hogan (born Terry Gene Bollea). "Hulk has been by my side since we stepped into the wrestling world. He was an incredible athlete, a genius, a dear friend, and a loving father!" Flair also mentioned the immense generosity shown by the six-time WWE champion when his young son Reid Flair faced a health crisis. "Our friendship meant the world to me," Flair continued. "He was always there for me, even when I didn't ask. When I was hospitalized with a 2% chance of survival, he was one of the first to visit me and prayed by my bedside. When Reid was sick, Hulk lent me money. Hulkster, there will never be another like you! Rest in peace, my friend!"

Meanwhile, John Cena paid a silent tribute to the star of "Hogan Knows Best" with a nostalgic photo of Hogan doing what he loved most in the ring. In his later years, Hogan became a prominent figure in right-wing politics and was also mourned by Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump.
