It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of my dear friend and esteemed client, Isiah Whitlock Jr., who has left us at the age of 71. As his manager, Brian Liebman, I write this with a heavy heart, knowing that his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.

"Today I Learned Of The Passing Of My Dear Beloved Brother Isiah Whitlock. GOD BLESS," wrote director Spike Lee in a heartfelt tribute, accompanied by a photo of the two men shaking hands. "If you knew him - you loved him. A brilliant actor and even better person," echoed Mr. Liebman. "May his memory forever be a blessing. Our hearts are so broken. He will be very, very missed."

According to Hollywood news outlets, Whitlock passed away in New York after a brief illness. On The Wire, he played a corrupt politician and was known for his memorable and profane catchphrase, which he himself had developed and which became so popularized that it entered the lexicon.

"I was in Grand Central Station, and far away I heard someone say it and they'd be kind of smiling," he said in a 2008 interview. "I'm glad people enjoy it."

On Veep, he played a comical version of the US Secretary of Defense, who runs for office against the main character, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Whitlock featured in six films by Spike Lee, including 25th Hour, She Hate Me, Red Hook Summer, Chi-Raq, BlacKkKlansman, and Da 5 Bloods.

The native of South Bend, Indiana, also had roles in films such as Pieces of April, Enchanted, and Cars 3 and Lightyear, as well as TV roles in the Law and Order franchise.

In his final days, Whitlock was surrounded by love and support from his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be remembered as a true artist and a kind soul who touched the lives of many through his incredible talent and infectious laughter. Rest in peace, Isiah Whitlock Jr., you will be forever in our hearts.
