James Cameron, with a confidence born from years of blockbuster success, declared his readiness to close the chapter on the 'Avatar' saga if 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' fails to ignite the box office numbers that would secure Disney's greenlight for the final two installments of the franchise. Speaking on Matt Belloni's 'The Town' podcast, just before the release of the third film, Cameron delved into the financial intricacies of a movie with a budget that could buy a small country.

"I have no doubt in my mind that this movie will make money," he affirmed, his voice firm with conviction. "The question is, will it make enough money to warrant a repeat performance? If this is where the journey ends, then so be it."

Cameron revealed that 'Fire and Ash' wraps up most of the narrative threads, leaving only one loose end. Should the franchise end here, he promises to tie up the loose end in a novel.

Moreover, he made it clear that he won't step aside if the series continues. "I don't foresee a scenario where there will be another 'Avatar' movie without my close involvement in its production," he emphasized.

The original 'Avatar' (2009) remains the highest-grossing film of all time, amassing nearly $3 billion worldwide. Its sequel, 'The Way of Water' (2022), earned $2.3 billion. Disney has planned two more sequels, set for release in December 2029 and December 2031, ensuring that the Pandora's world will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.
