The 43-year-old, with a glint of humor in her eyes, set the record straight, disclosing that a "rather unfortunate wedding ring saga," rather than any marital woes, is behind her ring-less fingers. "I'm currently sans wedding band because I suffered a finger mishap, but fear not, I've caught wind of some comments floating around—Henry and I are as blissfully married as ever," she reassured with a chuckle.
This predicament seems to have jogged her memory of another ringside drama, as she fondly recounted a night of revelry that led to the loss of her husband, Henry Chase Hager's, grandmother's cherished sapphire ring. "Savannah Guthrie's 50th birthday bash was one such occasion where I felt compelled to go all out for my closest friend," Bush Hager reminisced. "I gave it my all, standing tall among the last few revelers."
Meanwhile, her spouse, 46, had grown "somewhat testy" and retreated early from the 2022 festivities. Bush Hager, determined to make the most of the night, stayed behind—a choice she now partially regrets. "He retired early, sort of hinting, 'Aren't you joining me?' to which I boldly replied, 'No way, I'm staying!'" she recounted. "Upon waking the next morning, I glanced down at my engagement ring only to discover one of the gemstones missing."
The mother of three found herself in a quandary over how to broach the news. "I was already walking a tightrope after my wild antics," she confessed. "As I peered down, I pondered, 'Do I confess now or wait till later?' In the end, I came clean, saying, 'Darling, I know I lost some dignity last night. But I also misplaced your grandmother's sapphire.'" Fortunately, Henry took the news "in stride," despite the sapphire never resurfacing.
"He's incredibly forgiving," Bush Hager stressed. "My mom even calls him a 'saint,' which essentially means I'm a handful. Regardless, the ring was never recovered."
Flashback to September 2024, when Bush Hager relived this jewelry mishap with Hoda Kotb. "I was in a tizzy, thinking, 'Do I tell Henry right away, first thing in the morning?
