If there were lingering queries about Jennifer Lopez's reign as the queen of the revenge dress, the multifaceted entertainer has silenced them with a resounding fashion statement. On the evening of November 9, she graced the red carpet at the Wicked premiere, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, in a breathtaking, nearly translucent gown that left little to the imagination.
This halter-neck masterpiece, adorned with gemstone accents and bold side cut-outs, hailed directly from Zuhair Murad's Spring-Summer 2024 Couture Collection. Styled meticulously by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Lopez complemented her red carpet ensemble with dazzling jewelry from Sabyasachi.
Since the announcement of her divorce from Ben Affleck on their wedding anniversary in 2022, after two years of marriage, Lopez has been parading in an array of revenge dresses, sending a clear message to the world – and perhaps to her ex – that her public split has not dimmed her spirit.
Just prior to this, on September 6, Lopez attended the premiere of her new film Unstoppable, produced by Affleck's company, Artists Equity, during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival at Roy Thomson Hall. Her appearance came on the heels of her divorce news breaking.
For this pivotal event, Lopez chose a daring silver Tamara Ralph gown, featuring head-to-toe slits held together by large black bows. While addressing the press, she revealed a moment of hesitation about wearing the nearly nude dress. "There was a debate about whether I should or shouldn't," Lopez confessed to People, referring to her revenge attire. "And I just thought, screw it." (Meanwhile, Affleck skipped the premiere and was reportedly spotted in Los Angeles, his residence.)
Post-premiere, Lopez posted a series of Instagram photos showcasing her bold gown, accompanied by a caption that was apt for the occasion and could be interpreted with a double meaning, given her return to single life. "Unstoppable," she declared.
Lopez's "revenge" wardrobe doesn't solely consist of red carpet-worthy gowns. During her reunion with Affleck in September, she was spotted wearing a chic, casual black long-sleeve turtleneck crop top paired with flared jeans, one of her favorite fall denim trends.
Her reunion (and subtly revenge-fuelled) crop top was a touch more reserved compared to the white turtleneck crop top she wore in Los Angeles just days earlier, post-breakup. The singer-actress paired the abdominal-baring top with cream-colored pants and dark, high-heeled, fall-ready boots.
Of course, she adorned her "revenge" outfit with her iconic crocodile Birkin bag, valued at over $89,000, because nothing exemplifies "don't be fooled by the rocks that I got" quite like a Birkin.
Recently, Affleck commented on Lopez's performance in Unstoppable, telling Entertainment Tonight, "Jennifer is spectacular. [This movie] is another one that we're incredibly proud of."
