Jeremy O. Harris, the actor who plays Grégory Elliot Duprée in the Netflix series "Emily in Paris," is embroiled in a fresh legal predicament. As confirmed by Reuters on December 4th, the 32-year-old was detained at an airport in Japan last month on suspicion of attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country.

The incident occurred on November 16th, when Harris landed on the Japanese island of Okinawa. Customs officers at the Tomigusuku airport, overseen by the Tomigusuku police, discovered ecstasy in his bag. A total of 780 milligrams of MDMA, a hallucinogenic drug also known as Ecstasy, was found in his carry-on luggage, according to reports.
While Harris was initially arrested for violating the Customs Act, which prohibits travelers from bringing narcotics into the country, it remains unclear whether any formal charges have been filed or if the playwright has admitted to any of the allegations.
Harris first garnered attention in 2018 when he wrote and produced the off-Broadway production "Slave Play." The three-act play was a hit, eventually opening on Broadway in 2019 and earning him 12 Tony Award nominations the following year. Since then, he has co-written films like 2020's "Zola" and 2025's "Erupcja," starring Charli XCX. Additionally, he has appeared in recurring roles on "Emily in Paris" and in shows such as the rebooted "Gossip Girl," as well as films like "The Sweet East."
Despite his recent successes, Harris recently admitted that he is still finding his footing in Hollywood. "In this moment of figuring out how to navigate this world, all I have going for me is that everyone recognizes that I have good taste," he told Vanity Fair in June. "It's like a weird club, and once you're in, you're in."
