Jessie J is offering an update on her health journey, shedding light on a personal battle. The renowned singer of "Bang Bang" revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer over two months ago, embarking on a whirlwind of medical tests throughout the year. In an Instagram video posted on June 3, Jessie bravely shared, "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. Cancer, in any form, is a harsh reality, but I cling to the hope conveyed by the word 'early.'"
The 37-year-old artist announced her plans to undergo surgery following her performance at the Summertime Ball 2025 concert in London on June 15. With a touch of humor, she quipped, "Getting a breast augmentation via surgery is quite the dramatic turn of events. After Summertime Ball, I'll be taking a brief hiatus for my operation, and I promise to return with bigger boobs and even more music."
Jessie, who co-parents her two-year-old son Sky with basketball player Chanan Safir Colman, admitted to hesitating before going public with her diagnosis. However, she decided to be transparent for several compelling reasons. "Firstly, selfishly, I don't talk about it nearly enough," she continued. "I'm so engrossed in work that I haven't fully processed it. Moreover, I've experienced firsthand how sharing my struggles has garnered love, support, and heartfelt stories from others. I wear my heart on my sleeve."
Secondly, she wanted to express solidarity with those fighting cancer, saying, "It tears at my heartstrings to know so many are enduring similar or even worse struggles. This is what truly breaks me."
Furthermore, Jessie felt compelled to be honest about her life amidst releasing songs titled "No Secrets" in April and "Living My Best Life" last month. She noted that these tracks were "all meticulously planned before my diagnosis. Life, indeed, writes the best scripts."
Last year, the Grammy nominee opened up about her diagnoses with ADHD and OCD, adding, "This is an unusual topic and a peculiar situation." Nonetheless, her cancer journey has imparted invaluable lessons.
"The timing of it all has been both chaotic and beautiful, granting me an extraordinary perspective during this time," Jessie elaborated on her Instagram Story. "But honestly, I need to process it, talk about it, and, most importantly, I need a hug. You've stood by me through thick and thin. And I don't want this chapter to be any different."
