Jimmy Kimmel has offered his candid thoughts on the stunningGrammysred carpet spectacle. During his opening monologue on Monday night's edition of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", the late-night emcee couldn't resist commenting on the red carpet antics of Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori. During their appearance, Censori dramatically shed her coat to reveal a transparent dress, practically leaving her nude on the red carpet, and stirring up a storm ahead of Sunday's grand event.
"Another rodent emerged from its lair to make an appearance on the Grammys red carpet last night," Kimmel joked. "None other than Kanye West, who showed up solely for the red carpet photoshoot, accompanied by his wife, who caused quite a commotion. She was practically wearing nothing at all."
Kimmel then added with a wink, "This really shows how much times have changed. Back in the day, before Trump, this would have been the sole focus of our entire monologue tonight. Now, it's barely the ninth craziest thing that happened over the weekend."
He went on to recount the time when the entire country was in an uproar over Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl Halftime show, which resulted in a breast being exposed on national television. "But now, a woman strolls down the red carpet at the Grammys completely nude, and they're shouting, 'Bianca, over here on the right! Please!'" he mocked.
Given that Will Smith attended Sunday night's show to pay tribute to the late Quincy Jones, Kimmel quipped, "And you know what's really a shame? All he had to do was sprint out on that red carpet and slap Kanye. I think everyone would have forgiven him. He'd be hosting the Oscars next year!"
In the wake of the backlash following their headline-grabbing appearance, West took to his Instagram to defend Censori's daring look. In since-deleted comments, West posted: "FOR CLARITY. MY WIFE IS THE MOST GOOGLED PERSON ON THE PLANET CALLED EARTH," and added, "WE BEAT THE GRAMMIES." The post was accompanied by Google analytics screenshots highlighting the immense interest in Censori.
The daring ensemble not only caused an online stir but also led to accusations that the mogul-rapper was treating his wife like a promotional pawn. Sources close to the couple have stated that the idea behind the look was to replicate the album cover for West's "Vultures 1."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Censori is not expected to face any legal repercussions for her see-through outfit. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Tuesday that no investigation has been initiated.
