Joe Rogan mercilessly ridiculed Katy Perry and the all-female Blue Origin flight crew for their contentious 10-minute voyage to space last week during his "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast on Saturday. With sarcasm dripping from his words, he remarked, "It was incredibly profound," before adding, "I'm not sure if you caught Katy Perry's take on it, but she's now basically a spiritual guru."
When guest Tim Dillon inquired about what the "Teenage Dream" singer had discovered during her space adventure, Rogan jestingly replied, "Well, she brought a daisy, which is apparently of utmost importance." A picture of Perry, 40, clutching the flower—symbolizing her and Orlando Bloom's 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove—appeared on the screen, prompting Rogan to quip, "Just look at her nails; they're so exquisite."
The 57-year-old podcaster then teased that one shouldn't dismiss the crew's brief stint in space, saying, "Let's hail our female astronauts." He proceeded to enumerate the stringent qualifications required to become a NASA astronaut, emphasizing the need to first become a pilot before being considered for space travel.
On Monday, Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn, dressed in stylish blue suits and full glam, soared into space from Texas aboard Jeff Bezos' rocket, reaching an altitude of approximately 62 miles above Earth.
The crew swiftly faced backlash for their abbreviated journey, with actress Olivia Munn questioning the rationale behind the vast resources expended on the launch when "many individuals can't even afford basic necessities like eggs." Olivia Wilde also expressed her disdain for the space flight, sharing a picture on Instagram of Perry kissing the ground upon her return, captioning it, "A billion dollars bought us some good memes, I suppose."
Emily Ratajkowski went on a heated TikTok tirade, accusing the star-studded space team of "wreaking havoc on our planet." She fumed, "That space mission this morning? It's apocalyptic stuff. This is beyond parody," referring to the brief trip as "revolting."
Blue Origin also came under fire from Martha Stewart, Jessica Chastain, Kesha, and the Wendy's fast food chain. However, Sánchez, 55, and King, 70, struck back at their critics during an interview with People. King stated, "Those who are criticizing don't truly comprehend the significance of what's transpiring here." She continued, "We can all attest to the overwhelming positive response we're receiving from young women and girls regarding what this represents."
Sánchez added that she was "extremely motivated" by the criticism, clarifying that "thousands" of Blue Origin employees had "poured their heart and soul" into creating the rocket.
