Jon Stewart is calling out Elon Musk for reneging on his offer to appear on "The Daily Show." Last week, Musk had expressed his willingness to join Stewart on the Comedy Central series, provided the interview would air unedited. Stewart eagerly embraced the condition. However, Musk subsequently backed out, labeling Stewart as a partisan propagandist.
On Monday, Stewart addressed his audience (video below) with a tinge of irony, "I pondered over [his offer], and after a week of reflective family time intertwined with prayer... I realized, 'You know what, that's precisely how in-studio interviews usually unfold—unedited. So, absolutely, we'd be thrilled! In fact, let me sweeten the deal further. The interview can span from 15 minutes to an hour, or even two hours—whatever suits you. Let me be frank: I don't believe this network has any other commitments. Hence, we can do whatever the hell we fancy, as long as we wrap up before the new season of 'South Park' premieres in May or June 2026."
Stewart continued, his tone shifting to sarcasm, "But then, curiosity got the best of me, and I checked X again. Lo and behold, another tweet from Elon. After expressing his eagerness to join, he claimed that 'Jon Stewart cannot be trusted' and branded me a 'propagandist' and 'bipartisan.' You really underestimate me. This is the same individual who crafted his own dark MAGA hat, donned it while offering his opinions in the Oval Office alongside the president he lavished $270 million to elect... and yet, he finds me too partisan. I'm puzzled by his understanding of 'bipartisan.' Typically, it doesn't mean 'supporting Donald Trump and Germany's AFD party simultaneously.' That's not bipartisanship; it's just consistency in extremism."
Concluding his thoughts, Stewart stated firmly, "So, Elon, let me put it this way: I do have some reservations about DOGE. Generally, I'm all for efficiency and providing better services to the American public at a cheaper, more efficient cost. If you want to discuss it on the show, fantastic. If not, that's cool too. But can we please abandon the pretense that your refusal stems from my failure to meet your lofty standards of neutral discourse, which you consistently uphold and flaunt? Frankly, that's nonsense. You and I both know it—it's bunk. You've granted interviews to right-wing hosts, like your recent one with Tucker Carlson, so clearly, you're not averse to hosts with a partisan stance, as long as it aligns with yours."
Last week, in response to an 11-minute video posted on X titled, "Elon Musk Should Go On Jon Stewart's Daily Show," Musk had written, "I will do it if the show airs unedited." "The Daily Show" promptly replied on X, "@elonmusk we'd be delighted!" Musk then added, "Jon Stewart is far more of a propagandist than it appears. Jon is too rigid in his beliefs. He used to be more open-minded and bipartisan."
