Confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, "Jury Duty" is set to make a triumphant return for its second season on Amazon Prime Video, having already wrapped up filming. Amazon, however, chose to remain tight-lipped regarding this development.
The inaugural season of the show, which premiered on Amazon's Freevee in 2023, charmed audiences with its clever hidden-camera comedy, featuring an unsuspecting Ronald Gladden as the protagonist. Alongside him, actors—including James Marsden portraying himself—portrayed exaggerated versions of fellow jurors, a judge, and other courtroom figures, all while Gladden remained blissfully unaware of the elaborate charade.
Sources indicate that "Jury Duty's" sophomore season will venture beyond the witness stand and into the realm of a corporate retreat, filmed in the picturesque Agoura Hills suburb of Los Angeles.
Cody Heller, the showrunner for season one, once revealed to THR her initial trepidation at the prospect of executing such a daring candid-camera stunt. "That fear of failure sparked something within me," she confessed. Ultimately, it was the cast that propelled the show to success. "Ronald Gladden restored my faith in humanity," she praised.
Echoing Heller's sentiments about the high stakes, Marsden recounted his own on-set experience. "This is unlike anything you've ever witnessed," he enthused to THR. "You only get one take. If Gladden spots a hidden camera or someone slips up with a name, the whole setup collapses. That thrill of uncertainty was incredibly exciting to me."
Eventually, Gladden embraced the reveal and embarked on a new journey, signing with Gersh and inking a deal with Amazon to develop and star in various projects. He and Marsden, along with several other cast members, have forged enduring friendships.
"Jury Duty" was conceptualized by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also served as executive producers for season one alongside Heller, Bernad, Schulman, Ruben Fleischer, Nicholas Hatton, Andrew Weinberg, and director Jake Szymanski.
