Bhad Bhabie unleashed a fiery tirade against Alabama Barker on her track "Ms. Whitman," retaliating with such rap prowess that even non-believers were left in awe. The true highlight of the song, however, was Bhabie's masterful incorporation of a Kanye West sample, spitting fire over the beat from the rapper's smash hit "Carnival." This move puzzled fans even further, especially when Bhabie hinted at a potential verse contribution from West himself.
In an unexpected twist, it was Kanye West himself who had to step in to clarify the situation, rather than being the center of the drama. On Instagram, West revealed that he was completely unaware of the beef between Bhabie and Alabama Barker. Asserting his neutrality, he mentioned having spoken to Travis Barker about the matter. Travis, of course, is Alabama's father and the brother-in-law of West's ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. "I just talked to Travis Barker," West clarified. "I'm not cool with being put in the middle of all this mess." He further emphasized that he had not recorded a verse for Bhabie's diss track, and anything fans might see online is A.I.-generated. "Any verse going viral, using my voice, and all that – I didn't do it," West insisted.
Some fans may find West's stance perplexing, given his vocal advocacy for the use of A.I. in music. He faced widespread criticism for incorporating A.I. on his album VULTURES 2 and plans to do so again on his upcoming release, BULLY. During an appearance on the Download Podcast, West expressed his intention to make A.I. more widely accepted, likening it to Autotune and viewing it as a valuable tool. Ironically, however, the rapper seems less than thrilled about someone else using A.I. to recreate his vocals for a song.
As for why West cleared the sample despite not endorsing Bhabie's diss, he cited his desire to make life easier for younger artists, having faced numerous challenges in clearing samples himself. "I just got sent a song and was asked if I could clear the sample," he explained. "The only reason I clear anything is because so many people try to stop me. It's been very difficult... Whenever anyone asks me for something, I always clear it." Whether or not he contributed a verse, the sample undoubtedly worked in Bhabie's favor.
