It took some time for Kate Mara to recognize the extraordinary spark Jamie Bell ignited within her. During a September 3 episode of the 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name' podcast, the former 'House of Cards' star unfolded the tale of her love journey with her husband of eight years, revealing that their bond remained platonic for an extended period before they co-starred in the 2015 film 'Fantastic Four.'
"We were mere acquaintances, not really knowing each other's depths," Kate elaborated. "And then came 'Fantastic Four,' a truly intriguing chapter in our lives where we worked together."
While discussing the movie's turbulent set atmosphere, also featuring Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, Kate described it as "turbulent" and "chaotic." However, she noted that the silver lining was the profound connection she forged with Jamie. "We grew to understand each other on that set, and I thought, 'Wow, he's incredible,'" she shared. "He was simply the best."
Even then, Kate didn't envision Jamie, now 39, as her romantic counterpart. "He was single, and I found myself trying to pair him up with everyone around," Kate recalled. "I kept thinking, 'Oh my goodness, I must find someone amazing for him. He's such a catch. How is he still single?'"
It wasn't until a year later that Kate realized she was the one she had been searching for all along. "We had been friends for so long that we both assumed, 'This is just how our relationship is,'" she said. "But then, yes, we fell in love during the movie's press tour—a bond forged through shared traumas."
Once the couple, who tied the knot in 2017, realized their feelings for each other, there was no turning back. As Kate put it, "He blinked, and that was it. It was insane. We thought, 'Oh, I guess we're getting married.'"
Kate, now 42, who shares a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son with Jamie, added, "We simply thought, 'This is forever. It's wonderful.' And here we are, with a bunch of kids and the happiest we've ever been."
