Kate Winslet has bid adieu to the mesmerizing world of 'Avatar,' but she's diving into another franchise with deep roots in New Zealand. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join 'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,' which will commence production in the land of the Kiwis this year. However, details about Winslet's role remain under wraps.
Andy Serkis, the visionary behind the helm, is reprising his iconic role as Gollum, the tragic character he originated in Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy in the early 2000s and further showcased in 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.'

'The Hunt for Gollum' bridges the gap between 'The Hobbit' trilogy and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, where Aragorn and Gandalf embark on a quest to uncover more about Bilbo's ring, which ultimately reveals itself as the One Ring that threatens the entire realm of Middle-earth during the events of 'Lord of the Rings.'
Jackson is teaming up with 'LOTR' veterans Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens to produce a pair of Gollum-centric films. Zane Weiner is also on board as a producer. The feature film is slated for a December 17, 2027 release from Warner Bros.' New Line division.
Ian McKellen is returning as Gandalf, while Elijah Wood has hinted strongly that he will reprise his role as Frodo.
Winslet, a seven-time Oscar nominee who won in 2009 for 'The Reader,' last graced our screens as Ronal in James Cameron's $1.5 billion grosser 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' She also directed last year's family drama 'Goodbye June,' penned by her son, Joe Anders.
Winslet is represented by CAA and United Agents.
