Katherine Heigl is re-entering the spotlight for a worthy cause, and her presence at Florida’s Big Dog Ranch House’s Wine, Women & Shoes benefit event on March 8th was a testament to her dedication. The Grey’s Anatomy alum donned a vibrant, knee-length dress in a mesmerizing blue, green, and purple pattern, accessorizing it with blue heels, a yellow purse, and a chic, voluminous updo.
As the 47-year-old enjoyed snuggling the puppies in attendance, her mother, Nancy Heigl, was by her side in an elegant beige ensemble, also holding a puppy close as they posed for a photo together.

Katherine’s attendance at the fundraiser marks her first major public event since early 2024. After relocating to Utah several years ago to pursue a more low-key life with her family, including her three children Naleigh, 16, Adalaide, 13, and Joshua, 8, and husband Josh Kelley, she has found peace and contentment in her new surroundings.
“I have carved out this peace for myself and my family, and it brings me so much joy, clarity, and grounding,” she told E! News in April. When asked about returning to Hollywood, she simply replied, “Why mess with that?”
However, she does admit to questioning her decision to step away from the spotlight at times. “Sometimes I ask myself if I should be in the game, if I should be hustling, if I should be more ambitious. And I just think I really don’t want to,” she explained. “If you don’t want it, then don’t do it just because you think that’s what you’re supposed to do or what society expects from you.”
In Utah, her family ties have only strengthened. Not only is she more available to her kids as they enter their teenage years, but she and Josh have grown closer. “For me, he’s become such my person, especially in this world we’ve created for ourselves out in Utah,” Katherine shared. “He’s always been that safe harbor, somebody I can really depend on.”
While she hasn’t completely closed the door on future on-screen projects (her last work being on Firefly Lane until 2023), her physical location in Utah often poses a challenge. “Nothing shoots in Utah, so I have to go on location, and it’s just not something right now that I can fathom doing successfully,” she said. “I think I would be so torn and divided. I don’t know how much of my attention I could give a project when I’m worried about my kids at home.”
Plus, she’s already experienced the joy of a successful and fulfilling career. “I’m really happy and content,” she said. “And I’m so grateful for the years I had in the industry.”
