Katie Holmes isn't taking "fabricated" reports about her daughter, Suri Cruise, lightly at all. The 45-year-old former "Dawson's Creek" star took to Instagram on Sunday to refute a recent article from The Daily Mail that claimed her 18-year-old daughter had become a "millionaire" thanks to a trust fund from her father, Tom Cruise. The article further stated that Holmes herself also had a trust fund established.
Holmes posted a screenshot of the article, branding it as "utterly false" and adding, "Daily Mail, you can cease from fabricating stories." She captioned the photo with a simple yet powerful word: "Enough."
In the comments section of her post, the actress clarified her stance after a follower suggested she should have a broader "perspective" since ordinary people are grappling with more significant issues. "I don't disagree," she replied thoughtfully. "But in today's world, I don't want my child to be a target. It's perilous."
Earlier on Saturday, Holmes had shared a post that humorously attributed the quote "don't believe everything you read on the Internet" to William Shakespeare. USA TODAY has contacted Tom Cruise for his comment on the matter.
Holmes, who is currently starring in "Our Town" on Broadway, was married to the "Mission: Impossible" actor from 2006 until their divorce in 2012. They have one child together, Suri, who celebrated her 18th birthday in April.
The actress known for her role in "Batman Begins" typically keeps her daughter's life private, although she has occasionally opened up about her in interviews and on social media. In 2021, Holmes posted rare photos of Suri on Instagram to mark her birthday, expressing amazement that she was already "15!"
Holmes, who was 27 when Suri was born, has previously spoken about the joy of becoming a mother in her twenties. "Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match," she told Elle UK in 2019. "We kind of grew up together."
In an interview with Town & Country earlier this year, Holmes expressed her pride in her daughter as she embarked on her college journey. "Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm incredibly proud of her and I'm happy," she shared. "I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It's thrilling to learn about yourself, and I cherished that time, so it brings me joy to think about it in that light."
