Hulu's highly anticipated drama pilot, "Southern Bastards," has finally found its charismatic lead actor. The legendary actor Kevin Bacon will star in this project, which is based on the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by Jason Aaron and Jason LaTour. The pilot is a collaboration between Disney's Onyx Collective, POV Entertainment, and Ryan Coogler's Proximity Media, in association with Fifth Season.

In addition to Bacon's star power, the talented director Reinaldo Marcus Green (known for his work on "King Richard" and "We Own This City") has joined the pilot as its director. "Southern Bastards" follows a determined military veteran who embarks on a journey to Craw County, Alabama, in search of her long-lost father. Little does she know that what awaits her is a dangerous web of organized crime led by the most successful high school football coach in the South.

Bill Dubuque ("Ozark") and Nia DaCosta ("Hedda," "Candyman") share the story credit for the pilot, with Dubuque penning the screenplay. Matt Olmstead (of NBC's "Chicago" franchise) will serve as the showrunner.

Bacon will portray Earl, the son of Craw County's infamous Sheriff Bert, who ruled with an iron fist. Earl is portrayed as a tough but humble Army veteran eager to reconnect with his estranged daughter and not afraid to stir up trouble in his hometown.

Dubuque, DaCosta, and Olmstead are executive producing "Southern Bastards" alongside Green; Aaron and LaTour; POV Entertainment's Layne Eskridge; and Proximity Media's Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler. Proximity's Simone Harris and POV's Kate Barry are co-executive producers, while Proximity's creative executives Hannah Baker and D'Angelo Louis will oversee production.

Bacon's recent credits include the horror comedy "Family Movie" (which he also directed and premiered at SXSW last month), Netflix's "Sirens," and Prime Video's "The Bondsman." He is represented by MGMT, Johnson Shapiro, and Viewpoint.

Green's directing credits also include "Bob Marley: One Love," "Top Boy," and the upcoming Disney+ special "The Punisher: One Last Kill." He is represented by WME, Granderson des Rochers, and ID.
