Kim Kardashian Reveals Ex Kris Humphries Only Paid for 1/5 of Her Engagement Ring — and Made Her Give It Back in Their Divorce

Kim Kardashian might harbor a lingering regret stemming from her swift divorce from Kris Humphries. The founder of SKIMS was famously tied to the former NBA star for a mere 72 days in 2011. During the March 13th episode of "The Kardashians," she nostalgically reflected on the engagement ring Humphries had given her – or, more accurately, the one she had purchased herself.

As Kim, now 44, pondered aloud to her sister Khloé Kardashian, she remarked, "I can't help but wonder what shape my next ring will be – for my final, grand engagement." This prompted her to embark on a nostalgic journey, revisiting each of her three engagement rings.

"The first was a cushion-cut, 14-karat beauty," she recalled, referring to her four-year marriage to Damon Thomas. Her second engagement ring, presented to her by Humphries, was an 18-karat emerald-cut masterpiece from Lorraine Schwartz. "I didn't keep that one," she confessed. "I was pregnant with North [West] and still married to him. To finalize the divorce, he insisted I give him the ring. The irony was, I had bought it myself – he only contributed a fifth of the cost," she clarified.

Upon hearing this tale, her hairstylist and friend Chris Appleton exclaimed, "Jesus," describing the situation as "savage." Schwartz, who accompanied Kim and Khloé on their trip to Mumbai for the July 2024 Ambani wedding (documented in the episode), assured Kim that getting rid of the ring was for the "best." Kim admitted, "But I would've loved to have a collection."

Since her divorce from Humphries, Kim married Kanye West and welcomed three more children with him. Although she rarely discusses her brief marriage to Humphries, she did joke about giving him a call earlier this season, after Khloé, 40, reunited with her ex-husband Lamar Odom. Kim queried her sister and mom Kris Jenner, "Should I call Kris Humphries?" Khloé replied with a laugh, "That's what I said. Get all the ex-husbands here!"

In 2021, Kim admitted that she felt "pressured" to go through with her 2011 wedding to Humphries, as it was being filmed for "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." She shared, "I thought, 'Okay, we're filming this for a TV show. If I back out, I'll be labeled the runaway bride forever, and it'll be a huge joke. I think I just had cold feet.' So, I said, 'Okay guys, it's just cold feet. I got this. We're filming the show.'"

Looking back, Kim acknowledged that she handled their breakup "the wrong way" and owed Humphries an apology. "I was so anxious about breaking up with someone that I handled it completely the wrong way. I broke up with him in the worst possible manner. I just didn't know how to cope. I learned so much from that experience," she added.

New episodes of "The Kardashians" premiere on Thursdays at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu.
