KISS Rocker Gene Simmons Hospitalized in Malibu Car Crash

Published: Oct 09 2025

Gene Simmons is on the road to recovery. The co-founder of KISS is bouncing back after being hospitalized following a car accident in Malibu, California, on October 7, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department to NBC4.

According to authorities, Simmons crashed his Lincoln Navigator into a parked car just off the Pacific Coast Highway shortly before 1 p.m. local time. The 76-year-old rock icon reportedly told officers that he had either passed out or fainted moments before the collision. His wife, Shannon Tweed, also shared with the outlet that while Simmons was briefly hospitalized, the musician—who, according to her, had recently undergone a change in his medical prescriptions—is now convalescing at home. E! News has reached out to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Lost Hills Station as well as Simmons' representatives for further comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Simmons isn't the only KISS legend nursing injuries. Ace Frehley, another former member of the band, announced on Instagram on October 6 that he had to cancel the remainder of his 2025 tour dates in October and November "due to some ongoing medical issues."

The iconic rock band—comprising Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley, and Tommy Thayer—is set to reunite next month for the KISS Kruise: Land-Locked In Vegas event, marking their 50th anniversary. "What we're doing in Vegas," Paul Stanley explained on the Artist Friendly with Joel Madden podcast in July, "just because we're not touring and the band isn't what it once was doesn't mean we've forgotten our fans. Our fans made us who we are and continue to keep us relevant."

Initially, the group had hoped to organize another KISS cruise—the last one took place in 2022—but, as the guitarist admitted, they "couldn't secure a ship." "We're pulling off a KISS cruise without a ship," Paul teased. "We've got the Virgin Hotel. We're going to perform. Other bands will join in. We'll hold Q&A sessions. There will be competitions. It's going to have everything people expected from a KISS cruise."

"At first, Gene and I felt a bit left out of this idea, like it was straying from the spirit of what we've always done," he elaborated. "So, we stepped in and said, 'No, no. This needs to hit all those emotional notes that everyone has come to love about the KISS Kruises.' Just because we don't have a ship this year and one wasn't available doesn't mean we can't create the same kind of memorable experience."
