Kristen Stewart's tattoos made quite the statement at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. On May 16, the "Twilight" actress graced the red carpet for the premiere of her directorial debut, "The Chronology of Water," donning a chic white Chanel shorts suit that boldly displayed her latest ink: the word "MINE," etched in bold black ink on her lower right thigh, just above her knee.

It turns out that the 35-year-old's new tattoo carries a NSFW backstory, deeply intertwined with her latest cinematic endeavor. In an interview with Vulture, published on May 17, Kristen revealed, "The coolest song in the movie features a character who urinates on her hand, smells it, wipes it on her bicep, and exclaims, 'I didn't know a girl's body could do that. Shoot cum.' And then the lyrics 'Mine, mine, mine, mine' kick in, emphasizing possession and empowerment." She added, "It's just fucking mine."

The "Happiest Season" actress further disclosed that the rest of the crew intends to get matching "MINE" tattoos, and she herself had inked another word on her body just a day before heading to Cannes. "I have 'Why' tattooed right here," Kristen said, gesturing towards her upper arm. "We had just wrapped up the movie, and I was in a rush, thinking, 'No matter what, finding a tattoo artist to give us three tattoos today is top priority!'"

Regarding the significance of the word "Why" for her, the first-time director pointed to the runtime of "The Chronology of Water." "I don't think the movie is long," she remarked. "It's two hours and eight minutes, with a killer credit sequence that you must watch until the last frame to fully appreciate the film. But it's a serious movie. We deserve to take up space. I didn't want to create a one-and-a-half-hour, easily digestible experience just to make it less challenging for the audience. It's fascinating how at some point, you might think, 'Are we still doing this? Why?'"

Moreover, the actress debuted her newly dyed pink tips during a photocall for her film, which she explained was also inspired by the project. "It's a bloody motif," Kristen shared. "I wanted to incorporate a bit of the movie into my body."
