Kristin Cavallari announces the death of her dog Kona: 'Really hard'

Published: Jan 14 2026

Kristin Cavallari is deeply grieving the loss of her "amazing" canine companion, Kona. In the January 13th episode of her podcast, Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, the 39-year-old American TV personality and fashion designer shared the tragic news of the passing of her beloved German Shepherd, Kona.

The heartbreaking revelation came just a day before the recording of her first episode of 2026. She candidly shared, "God, it is so hard, the physical act of putting a dog down." This was not the first time Cavallari had to experience this difficult moment; she had previously lost her Yorkie. She added, "Even if you have made peace with it, it still hurts."

Kona was 12 years old at the time of her death, which is considered "great" for a German Shepherd as their lifespan typically ranges from 9 to 13 years. Cavallari noted that Kona's age had started to show, but she had lived a "great life." Despite having some health issues in her last few months, including losing her eyesight and hearing, Kona was still going on walks with them until the very end.

The Laguna Beach alum confessed that it took her a whole week to "say goodbye" to Kona. During that time, she spoiled her with her favorite treats, including steak, peanut butter, and chocolate. She shared, "If you guys haven't experienced this before, it's intense. I was laying there with her, petting her. I'm gonna try really hard not to cry."

This poignant moment in Cavallari's life serves as a reminder of the bond we share with our pets and the heartache we feel when they are no longer with us.
