A year has passed since "Curb Your Enthusiasm" bid farewell with its series finale, and now, Larry David is making a triumphant return to HBO, bringing along an unexpected companion: a former President of the United States. David will take center stage, co-pen the scripts, and serve as an executive producer for a sketch comedy series that delves into the annals of American history. Produced under the Higher Ground banner, helmed by Barack and Michelle Obama, the series will also boast the former President and First Lady as executive producers.

The premise is intriguing: "President and Mrs. Obama had envisioned honoring America's 250th birthday by celebrating our nation's distinctive history. However, their plans took an unexpected turn when Larry David made that fateful call." In a statement, the former President quipped, "I've faced some of the world's toughest leaders across the table and tackled intractable challenges. Yet, nothing has prepared me for collaborating with Larry David."

Jeff Schaffer, a writer, and executive producer of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," alongside David, will pen the series, with Schaffer also directing. They will join forces with the Obamas, along with Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis from Higher Ground, as executive producers.

David joked, "After 'Curb' wrapped up, I indulged in a three-day foam party to celebrate. Unfortunately, a violent allergic reaction to the suds left me longing for my humble life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from wildflowers in my meadow. Sadly, my bees vanished one day, leading me, with a heavy heart, to return to television, in hopes of easing the loss of my beloved hive."

The as-yet-untitled show, scheduled for six episodes, is poised to premiere in 2026, potentially coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding. It promises to feature some familiar faces from "Curb," along with notable guest stars. Schaffer clarified, "The characters Larry portrays didn't alter history; in fact, they were largely overlooked by it. And that's fortunate."

Amy Gravitt, executive vice president and head of comedy programming for HBO and HBO Max, added, "It's challenging to recall a time before 'Curb' or without Larry David's unique perspective on modern life. We're overjoyed to welcome Larry back to HBO, this time in partnership with Higher Ground, to offer us a glimpse into our shared history as we commemorate our Semiquincentennial."
