Leighton Meester, the iconic star of "Gossip Girl," has inked a deal to grace the screen once more as she joins the ensemble of "Nobody Wants This" for its eagerly anticipated second season. On Thursday, Netflix broke the exciting news on their official Instagram page with the enthusiasm-laden caption, "Everybody wants this!"
According to Netflix, Meester, who is happily married to Adam Brody—the heartthrob lead of numerous romantic comedies—will step into the shoes of Kristen Bell's character Joanne's former "middle school nemesis." The streaming giant revealed this intriguing twist in the plot.
Furthermore, Variety has reported that Miles Fowler, renowned for his role in "Bottoms," has also been tapped to make a guest appearance in Season 2. He will portray a character on Noah's (played by Brody) basketball team, famously known as the Matzah Ballers, who ends up paired with Joanne's sister Morgan (Justine Lupe).
The star-studded cast of "Nobody Wants This" includes Brody, Bell, Jackie Tohn, Lupe, and Timothy Simons. The series revolves around Noah, a so-called "hot rabbi," who embarks on a relationship with Joanne, a sexually forthright podcaster with no specific religious affiliation. In the first season, Noah's religious beliefs and traditional family posed challenges to their relationship, yet their undeniable chemistry kept the flames burning brightly.
Earlier this month, Brody was honored with a Critics' Choice award for his stellar performance in the series, and he took the opportunity to give a heartfelt shout-out to Meester during his acceptance speech. "My darling, darling, darling wife, Leighton, thank you," Brody expressed. "Thank you for sharing this life and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. I love you with all my heart."
When "Nobody Wants This" premiered last year, it became an instant hit. Since then, it has garnered three Golden Globe nominations, including nods in the acting categories for Brody and Bell. Both Brody and Bell have also been nominated for SAG Awards, with Bell set to host the ceremony this Sunday in Los Angeles.
As of now, a release date for Season 2 of "Nobody Wants This" has yet to be announced, leaving fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation.
