This girl isn't afraid to share her truth. Indeed, Lena Dunham didn't hold back in her new memoir, "Famesick," published on April 14th, revealing that she cheated on Jack Antonoff towards the end of their five-year relationship. The creator of "Girls" admitted in her book that she had an affair with her middle school boyfriend—whom she only referred to as Nick—writing that Jack's "closeness" with a "teen pop star" whose album he was producing at the time started "striking an odd note."
E! News reached out to Jack's representative for comment but hasn't heard back. Lena and Jack started dating in 2013, but it wasn't until 2017 that she noticed a shift in their dynamic that started to raise some red flags.
"I had never stopped flirting—I mean, I wasn't dead yet—but I had observed careful boundaries, never taking it far enough that I could be declared out of bounds," she wrote. "If I'd wanted to look, perhaps I may have seen that Jack was not observing them as closely as I was."
Around the same time, Lena was struggling with health issues. After having a hysterectomy, the 39-year-old reached out to Nick "with impunity," saying, "I've just had major surgery and I need to be cheered up."
"Meet me by the bridge? Bring me a stuffed animal?" Lena remembered asking her middle school flame while Jack was away on tour, according to the book. "I got an answer back in less than a minute: 'I'm already running.'"
So, when the two met up, Lena said she "let my lips wander slowly across his face and onto his." Their dalliance progressed into a days-long affair. The "Too Much" creator remembered telling Nick at the beginning of their affair, "I've been through something awful. I don't want to talk about it, but I need you to fuck me and I need you to do all of the work."
They also arranged a clandestine hookup at her parents' house when they were out of town.
"Nick met me at their place, where he went down on me while I watched the steady flames hiss in the electric fireplace," she wrote. "Afterward, we took a bath, washing each other's hair at the same time, then f---king again on top of my parents' quilt. He looked deep in my eyes as he moved over me and said: 'You're making me want to cut the brakes on your boyfriend's car.'"
But when Jack, 42, finally returned home from tour, Lena found herself settling back into her old ways. She detailed crawling into bed with him after another rendezvous with Nick, hoping that the affair would somehow help restore her broken relationship.
"I tried to calm my sheer terror by telling myself I was finally home from a bad dream," she wrote. "I had fixed myself, proved I could be the freaky sexy lively young woman he fell in love with. I had exorcised the demon. In a way, I had f---ked Nick for both our sakes, to make our house a home again. It would all be better now. I fell asleep to the rhythm of Jack's breathing, like I had been doing for almost six years."
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, and Lena confessed to Jack that she was unhappy in the relationship the next morning. It was then that they officially called it quits.
"We put our foreheads together and wept," she recalled of the 2018 breakup. "'No matter what happens,' I said, 'you will always be my first great love.' 'And you'll be mine,' he wept."
Following her split from the musician, Lena was briefly engaged to Nick but they ended their whirlwind romance towards the end of 2018. In September 2021, she married musician Luis Felber less than a year after going public with their relationship. As for Jack, he married Margaret Qualley in August 2023.
