Disney has unveiled an exhilarating full trailer for its eagerly anticipated live-action remake of the beloved animated classic, "Lilo & Stitch." Helmed by director Dean Fleischer Camp, this fresh interpretation of the 2002 film is poised to captivate audiences in theaters on May 23rd. The star-studded cast includes Maia Kealoha as the spirited Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her caring sister Nani, and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Rounding out the talented ensemble are Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, and Hannah Waddingham, joined by the original voice stars Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee, who lend their iconic voices once more.
A prior teaser for "Lilo & Stitch" showcased the mischievous blue alien causing a comical riot at the beach. The heartwarming 2002 tale revolves around Lilo, a Hawaii-resident girl who adopts a seemingly ordinary dog that reveals itself to be a genetically altered extraterrestrial with an unintended mission. In the newly released trailer, Kealoha tenderly tells Stitch, "Sometimes family isn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good."
Camp takes the reins of this new venture with a script penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, which is grounded in the foundation laid by the 2002 film co-directed by Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin serve as producers, ensuring the film’s creative and production prowess.
During a prior interview with The Hollywood Reporter to shed light on his directorial endeavors in "The Wild Robot," Sanders teased his return to voice Stitch, hinting, "I’ve glimpsed a few scenes, and while I can’t divulge specifics, they let me peek at some of the script, and it’s genuinely impressive."
Camp previously directed the Oscar-nominated "Marcel the Shell With Shoes On" for A24, showcasing his versatility and prowess in storytelling. Disney remains steadfast in its commitment to bringing beloved characters to life through its live-action remakes. Notably, director Barry Jenkins’ prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" debuted in December and has surpassed the $700 million mark at the global box office, further proving the enduring appeal of such reimagined classics.
