Lindsay Lohan is poised to mesmerize audiences once again with her dramatic prowess. In the cover story for Elle's scorching summer 2025 issue, Lohan bared her soul about her starring role in "Count My Lies," a gripping drama in the works at Hulu, adapted from Sophie Stava's enthralling novel. This milestone marks the actress's highly anticipated return to scripted television.
"I adored the book," Lohan confessed in a captivating chat with Saturday Night Live's Chloe Fineman. "But while reading it, I had to take a breather for a day; it stressed me out! Yet, I cherished that intensity. It's thrilling to embark on something so different."
This project stands out even more as it spares her the usual romantic entanglements, Lohan revealed. "I chatted with the writers and showrunners yesterday, and I told them, 'You might not realize this, but for the first time, I don't have a romantic interest. No kissing scenes at the climax!' It's such a breath of fresh air—not being 'that girl' for a change," she exclaimed.
"Count My Lies" revolves around Sloane Caraway, a compulsive liar who connives her way into a nanny gig with Violet and Jay Lockhart. "She seemingly lands her dream job," the show's tantalizing logline teases. "Little does Sloane know, she's stepped into a house teeming with secrets on the brink of explosion—with potentially catastrophic repercussions for all." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lohan will embody the character of Violet Lockhart.
"Count My Lies" hails from 20th Television and the former "This Is Us" helmsmen Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who pen the script and executive produce through their Walk-Up Company, inked in an overall deal with 20th TV. Lohan and Scott Morgan of The Walk-Up Company also serve as executive producers, with author Stava taking on the role of producer.
When pondering future roles, Lohan hinted at a "dark comedy akin to 'Mean Girls.'" She elaborated, "That kind of juicy, intelligent, hilarious film—a sharp comedy, not a romantic comedy, just straight-up funny. I'm thrilled to tackle this drama. Collaborating with dream directors would be a dream come true."
She named Quentin Tarantino, Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino as the legends she'd "adore working with." "I wonder why I've never played Moore's daughter. Perhaps now, I'd be her younger sister," Lohan mused. As for De Niro and Pacino, she enthused about the prospect of doing something "Sopranos-esque, given my Italian heritage."
After a break, Lohan has stormed back into the limelight with her multitude of acting endeavors. She attributed her comeback to Netflix. "Netflix was the catalyst. I manifested it during COVID. I journaled and vocalized, 'I want to work with Netflix.' And my wish came true. I thought, 'Three films with them would be nice, then we'll see where it leads. And I definitely want my first feature back with Disney.' I manifested that too, and now, I'm manifesting this movie," she shared.
Lohan shone in Netflix's festive films "Falling for Christmas" (2022), "Irish Wish" (2024), and "The Little Secret" (2024). She's also reprising her role as Anna in Disney's "Freaky Friday," set for August 8 release.
"I yearn to create movies that uplift and unite people. That's why I love filmmaking—it offers an escape and inspiration. But with Netflix, I realized it was time for new horizons. I can't make these movies forever," Lohan concluded.
