Linwood Boomer, the visionary behind the beloved series "Malcolm in the Middle," has finally disclosed how the "huge fan" Finn Wolfhard made a surprise appearance in the series' revival. In "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair," a revamp of the single-camera sitcom that aired from 2000 to 2006 over seven seasons, Wolfhard plays the role of an event planner hired by Jane Kaczmarek's character Lois Wilkerson to plan her and Hal's (played by Bryan Cranston) wedding anniversary party. The sitcom stars Justin Berfield, Frankie Muniz, Vaughan Murrae, Christopher Masterson, Kiana Madeira, Keeley Karsten, Anthony Timpano, and others.

Almost two decades after the original series concluded, Malcolm (Muniz) now leads a blissful life with his daughter Leah (Karsten) and girlfriend Tristan (Madeira), having distanced himself from his birth family. However, he is forced to reintegrate with them when his parents Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party, according to the synopsis.

Boomer shared an amusing anecdote about how Wolfhard's cameo came to be. "His agent called us and said, 'Can Finn visit the set?' We went, 'Shit, yeah!'" he recalled. The Canadian-American film producer explained that Wolfhard's agent reached out because "he loves the show; he's such a big fan of it." When they offered him a small part, he enthusiastically accepted. "We were like, 'F*** yeah, we want you to come; that'd be awesome!'" Boomer added.

Tracy Katsky, Boomer's wife and executive producer on the series, echoed the sentiment, saying Wolfhard was "an absolute doll" on set.

It's worth noting that "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair" is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on Friday, April 10, 2026.
