According to Young, despite Carey being merely four years older than Eminem, the rapper's team approached him with this bold proposition. Young expressed reservation about brokering a meeting between the two artists, stating, "I'm not about to meddle in that. I can already foresee how this will unfold." He further revealed that Carey initially declined the meeting, but reconsidered upon discovering it was for a potential film role.

Young recounted the moment he introduced Carey to Eminem, with the rapper directly conveying his wish: "I want you to play my mother." Carey reportedly did not receive this suggestion warmly, with Young commenting, "She was far from pleased. Her insecurities skyrocketed." Ultimately, the role of Eminem's mother, Debbie Mathers, went to Kim Basinger.

Young also shared his concerns about the potential collaboration, drawing comparisons to his experience with Christina Aguilera. He warned Eminem, "I'm managing this girl, and this could spell trouble for me." However, the rapper was insistent, expressing his genuine desire for Carey to be in the movie: "No, I seriously want her for the part."

'8 Mile' is a musical drama that chronicles the life of B-Rabbit, an aspiring Detroit rapper portrayed by Eminem. The film delves into his struggles within the underground rap battle circuit and his journey to fame. It also stars Brittany Murphy, Anthony Mackie, and Mekhi Phifer, painting a vivid picture of the rapper's early struggles and triumphs.
