Paramount+'s pulse-racing spy thriller, The Agency, has now uncovered its elusive protagonist. Michael Fassbender will headline this espionage masterpiece (initially christened The Department), drawing inspiration from the French sensation Le Bureau des Légendes, and production has kicked off. The double Oscar-nominated actor will also lend his talents as an executive producer, ensuring this captivating series finds its way to the Paramount+ With Showtime tier.

The series, a collaboration between Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, secured a direct-to-series order at Showtime in February 2023, before the esteemed cable outlet merged seamlessly with Paramount+. George Clooney and Grant Heslov helm the show's executive production, while Jez and John-Henry Butterworth craft all ten episodes, and Joe Wright directs the opening installments.

In The Agency, Fassbender embodies a CIA operative instructed to bid farewell to his covert existence and return to London Station. But when the love he once left behind resurfaces, the flames of romance are reignited. His professional life, true identity, and mission are now at odds with his heart, plunging them both into a perilous game of international intrigue and espionage.

"Michael Fassbender stands among the most accomplished actors of our era," remarked Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global's co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "He brings a profound gravitas and intricate complexity to every character he portrays, which is precisely why we are thrilled to have him at the helm of The Agency as we embark on our exciting journey of Showtime originals."

Fassbender, fresh off the heels of Taika Waititi's exhilarating Next Goal Wins and David Fincher's edge-of-the-seat Netflix thriller The Killer, has now completed his stint on Steven Soderbergh's intriguing Black Bag. Alongside the formidable team of Clooney and Heslov (via their esteemed Smokehouse Pictures), the Butterworths, Wright, and Fassbender, the executive producers of The Agency boast an equally impressive lineup, including Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz from Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari representing 101 Studios, Alex Berger from TOP-The Originals Productions, and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton of Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.
