Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel are meticulous about keeping screens at bay in their family life. The model revealed that the Snapchat founder and she have established a strict set of rules concerning screen time for their children: Hart, 7, Myles, 6, Pierre, 19 months, and Miranda's son Flynn, 14, from her previous marriage to Orlando Bloom. "My husband is fiercely anti-screens for the younger ones," Miranda shared in an exclusive sneak peek at her upcoming episode of Dear Media's The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show, hosted by Michael and Lauryn Bosstick. "That's the way he was raised."
Despite this stance, the 42-year-old revealed that she and Evan have found a compromise for their older kids. "I've suggested to him, 'Look, something that feels good to me is maybe on the weekend or a special occasion, cuddling up with the kids - the 6 and 7-year-old and the teenager if he wants to join in - and watching a movie,'" she explained. "And he's like, 'OK, but not every weekend.'"
Another special occasion where Hart indulged in screen time was during his summer break when he participated in a program that taught him "a little Minecraft," according to the Kora founder. However, the rules are slightly different for Flynn, who Miranda admitted got a cellphone when he was around 13. While he doesn't have any other social media accounts, he does have Snapchat, which she said is "the only way he communicates with his friends."
"They don't really text," she added. "They just Snap each other all day long." Miranda also appreciates that the platform - which Evan founded in 2011 - offers programs like the Family Center and The Keys, which "explain some of the dangers that are happening online."
"You watch it with them, and it explains very simply what could go wrong or how to prevent it and when to reach out to someone if you feel like something's off," she noted. "That's the way we do it at our house."
Evan, the tech CEO, previously shared his tech-free parenting philosophy, confessing that he and Miranda realized that having a device was the only way for Flynn to connect with his friends during the pandemic. "The dam broke and we have not looked back," he shared during the Cannes Lions Festival in 2023, adding that he makes sure Flynn uses his "critical thinking skills" about information he reads online. "We encourage [Flynn] to question things," Evan shared, "because of course not everything on the internet is true."
