Netflix's star-laden series, "The Four Seasons," is poised to make a splash in the already bustling spring TV lineup. Starring and co-conceived by the talented Tina Fey, this highly anticipated show is scheduled to debut on May 1. It is an adaptation of the beloved 1981 film, penned, directed, and headlined by Alan Alda, who now reprises his role as a producer and guest star in this fresh iteration. The narrative revolves around three couples—played with captivating charm by Fey and Will Forte, Steve Carell and Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani—whose tranquil vacation takes an unexpected turn when one of the pairs announces their divorce.
In a bidding war that saw "The Four Seasons" as a highly sought-after prize amidst the post-2023 labor strikes, Netflix emerged victorious and swiftly greenlit the series in early 2024. Universal Television, the home of Fey and her Little Stranger company, serves as the production house behind this intriguing adaptation.
Adding further depth to the ensemble, Erika Henningsen (of "Girls5Eva" fame) also stars in the regular cast. Among the guest stars are Alda himself, alongside Julia Lester, Ashlyn Maddox, Jacob Buckenmyer, Taylor Ortega, Simone Recasner, Toby Edward Huss, Tommy Do, Chloe Troast, Jack Gore, and Cole Tristan Murphy, among others.
"The Four Seasons" joins an array of potential Emmy Award heavyweights premiering in the closing weeks of the 2024-25 eligibility period, which concludes on May 31. Other notable series debuting in April and May include "Hacks," "The Handmaid's Tale," "Andor," "Black Mirror," "The Last of Us," "Étoile," and "Poker Face" (albeit the latter won't conclude its run by May's end).
Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have collaboratively brought "The Four Seasons" to life as co-creators, co-showrunners, and writers. They executive produce alongside David Miner, Jeff Richmond, and Eric Gurian. Alan Alda and Marissa Bregman, the daughter of the original film's producer Martin Bregman, round out the producing team. Directing duties for the first two episodes fall to Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman, with Oz Rodriguez, Richmond, Colman Domingo, and Fisher also taking the helm.
