Zooey Deschanel's heart was shattered by the personal loss of Rob Reiner's passing, a day after the Hollywood icon and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14th. The New Girl alum poured her heart out on Instagram, detailing her "absolutely devastated" reaction to the news. "My heart is broken," wrote the 45-year-old actress. "Rob Reiner was the warmest, funniest, most generous spirit. A truly good human being. An incredible artist and such a playful and fun collaborator. I cherish the time we spent working together and the many films he made that have shaped who I am."

Accompanying the post was a photo carousel of the two on the set of the Fox sitcom, as well as a tribute to Michele, whom Rob married in 1989 and welcomed kids Jake Reiner, 34, Nick Reiner, 32, and Romy Reiner, 27. "Rob and his lovely wife Michele were always so kind and it brought me so much joy any time I was lucky enough to see them," she continued. "Sending so much love to their family and friends."

Jamie Lee Curtis, who recurred as her mother and Rob's ex-wife throughout New Girl's run, was also pictured in Zooey's post. The Oscar winner and her husband Christopher Guest released a statement remembering the Spinal Tap director as a beloved member of their inner circle. "Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner," they said. "Our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families, and we will offer all support possible to help them."

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in a December 15th press release that Rob and Michele's son Nick had been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the case. He remains in police custody with no bail.
