During the electrifying event at ComplexCon Hong Kong on Sunday night, March 23rd, K-Pop megastar ensemble NJZ, formally known as NewJeans, made a poignant announcement that resonated deeply with their adoring fans. "This could very well be our final performance for the foreseeable future," they revealed, marking the ensemble's first collective appearance since Friday, March 21st, when a Seoul Court granted a preliminary injunction to their former management, Ador, amidst an ongoing dispute that has been simmering since mid-2024, as reported by the BBC.

NJZ, comprising the talented quintet of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, introduced their latest track, "Pit Stop," to a thrilled audience. Subsequently, visibly emotional, they converged on stage, halted the music, and shared a heartfelt letter, addressing their devoted fans affectionately known as "their bunnies" in both English and Korean.

"This stage holds an immense significance for us, and each one of you present here imparts strength merely by your existence," Hanni and Dani read aloud, their voices trembling with emotion. "It fills our hearts with sorrow to convey this, but this might indeed be our last performance for a brief period. Out of respect for the judicial ruling, we have reluctantly chosen to halt all our endeavors for the time being. It was a decision wrenched from our hearts, yet we firmly believe it is imperative under these circumstances."

The poignant speech concluded an hour-long headline performance in front of a capacity crowd exceeding 11,000 enthusiastic fans at the AsiaWorld Expo Arena, Hong Kong's largest venue for live music. Prior to their announcement, the group treated the audience to a series of "solo stages," where each member showcased their individual talents by covering iconic R&B tracks. While these covers — ranging from Danielle's rendition of TLC's "No Scrubs," Minji's take on UPSAHL's "Smile For The Camera," Haerin's version of "Dontcha," Hyein's interpretation of SWV's "Use Your Heart," and Hanni's performance of Ghost Town DJ's "My Boo" — were met with applause, they diverged significantly from NJZ's signature high-energy performances, polished choreography, and vibrant stage presence, leaving some in the audience puzzled.

Earlier in February, NewJeans announced their name change to NJZ as they were confirmed for ComplexCon. According to the BBC, the dispute stems from Hybe, Ador's parent company, allegedly ousting NewJeans' mentor, Min Hee-Jin. In a press conference last November, NewJeans declared their departure, asserting that Hybe and Ador had forfeited their right to represent them artistically. NJZ vows to challenge the court's decision handed down on Friday.

This marks the second installment of ComplexCon, the prestigious global festival celebrating streetwear and pop culture, in China. In the year 2024, the event garnered immense popularity, drawing over 30,000 international attendees. After eight thrilling years in Los Angeles, the U.S. edition relocated to the vibrant city of Las Vegas. By 2025, the three-day festival showcased an impressive array of 150 brands, 40 musicians and groups, alongside 400 creators spanning the realms of music, design, cinema, and sports.

NJZ proudly set up a merchandise booth within the bustling ComplexCon marketplace, which saw a staggering line of over 2,000 eager fans on Sunday alone.遗憾的是,随着所有NJZ新品迅速售罄,该展位也不得不宣布关闭。

This year's Complex LIVE! Concerts were a mesmerizing blend of South Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and American hip-hop artists and DJs, with a notable Hong Kong debut by headliners Quavo and Metro Boomin who ignited the opening night.

Below is the heartfelt and comprehensive statement from Hanni and Dani:

"This stage holds an indescribable significance for us and for each one of you who fuels us with your mere presence. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that this could very well be our final performance for the foreseeable future. Out of deep respect for the judicial ruling, we have decided to temporarily halt all our activities. It was an agonizing decision, but one we feel compelled to make at this juncture.

From the outset, we were acutely aware that this journey would be fraught with challenges. While we accept the court's verdict and the entire legal process, we had to stand up for the values we cherish, a choice we do not regret in the slightest. We firmly believe that defending our dignity, our rights, and everything we hold dear is our sacred duty, a conviction that remains unshaken.

We understand that today's news may evoke disappointment or distress, but it was equally difficult for us to arrive at this decision. For us, this is about safeguarding ourselves so that we can return with renewed vigor. We have traversed a tumultuous path, enduring trials that only we are privy to. There are countless stories we yearn to share with you and exciting plans we are eager to unveil. However, at this moment, maintaining our current pace feels overwhelming. Despite our best efforts to stay strong, the mental and emotional strain has taken its toll.

But this does not signify surrender. Regardless of the obstacles, we will persevere and push forward. Our visit to Hong Kong and the overwhelming love and support we received from you all at ComplexCon has fortified our spirits.

Currently, our hearts are weary, and maintaining this pace seems insurmountable. Yet, this does not imply defeat; it signifies resilience. With this decision, we honor the court's ruling and take a step back to pause, catch our breath, and gather our strength before embarking on the next chapter.

To all who have steadfastly believed in us and supported us through thick and thin, from the depths of our hearts, thank you. We cherish you beyond measure and cannot express our gratitude adequately. We promise that, come what may, we will meet again soon."
