Patrick Schwarzenegger has issued a poignant response to detractors who assert that his prominent role in the third season of "The White Lotus" was merely a byproduct of his famous lineage. In an interview featured in The Sunday Times on February 23rd, the 31-year-old actor, whose parents are the legendary action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, 77, and Kennedy descendant Maria Shriver, 69, candidly expressed his frustration at being judged solely by his surname rather than the tireless effort he has invested in his acting endeavors.
"I am acutely aware that there are individuals who contend that I secured this role solely due to my father's identity," Patrick revealed to the publication. "They overlook the decade I have spent honing my craft in acting classes, the countless hours I have poured into developing my characters, and the myriad of auditions I have faced with rejection."
Patrick had previously shared with PEOPLE magazine, for their February digital cover, that he attends weekly acting classes in his relentless pursuit of personal and professional growth. "It is undeniably discouraging to feel pigeonholed by one's surname, momentarily wishing for a different identity," he continued with The Sunday Times. "Yet, these fleeting moments are overshadowed by the immense gratitude I hold for my life and family. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been raised with the values and lessons imparted by my parents."
Patrick's acting journey began at the tender age of 10, with a role in the 2006 film "The Benchwarmers." Balancing his acting aspirations with academics, he pursued a business degree in college while continuing to appear in films such as "Stuck in Love" (2012) and "Grown Ups 2" (2013). His television credits include stints on "Scream Queens," "Gen V," "American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez," and "The Staircase."
It was within the confines of his family home that a shared admiration for "The White Lotus" blossomed, ultimately prompting Patrick to audition for its third season. Recalling the experience with PEOPLE, Patrick shared how his family, particularly his mother and sister, relentlessly encouraged him to pursue a role in the dark comedy series after binge-watching its first two seasons together.
In 2023, Patrick auditioned and was cast for season 3, which was filmed in 2024. He portrays Saxon Ratliff, the eldest son of Timothy (played by Jason Isaacs) and Victoria (Parker Posey), who works for his father's company. Saxon, along with his parents and siblings, finds themselves amidst turmoil during a vacation at a Thai resort.
Saxon is described by Patrick to PEOPLE as a "consummate flirt" and an "alpha male," adding depth to the season's ensemble cast that also boasts Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Lek Patravadi, Natasha Rothwell, Tayme Thapthimthong, and Aimee Lou Wood.
The third season of "The White Lotus," which premiered on February 16th, airs new episodes every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max, captivating audiences with its intricate tales of luxury and turmoil.
