Wendy Osefo and Edward Osefo have broken their silence following their arrests. Just hours after the stars of "The Real Housewives of Potomac" were taken into custody in Westminster, Maryland, on October 9th, on multiple felony charges of fraud, the couple was each released on a $50,000 bond and returned to the comfort of their home.
"Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are now safely back home with their family, and they're in good spirits," Wendy's representative conveyed to E! News in a statement issued on October 10th. "They deeply appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues."
The representative further added, "The Osefos, together with their legal team, are eagerly anticipating their day in court. At this moment, they respectfully request privacy as they concentrate on their family and the legal journey that lies ahead."
The day prior, a Maryland grand jury had indicted Wendy and Edward, both 41 years old, on multiple felony counts of fraud—seven for the former professor and nine for her husband. Additionally, they faced eight misdemeanor counts of conspiracy fraud each, along with one count of providing a false statement to a police officer, as per court records acquired by E! News.
The charges stem from an incident in April 2024, when the Osefos allegedly made a fraudulent report of a burglary and theft at their residence. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office detailed in an October 10th statement, "Upon arrival, [deputies] encountered the homeowners, who claimed they had returned from vacation to discover their home had been broken into and numerous items stolen." They reported the theft of around 80 pieces of jewelry, luxury goods, clothing, and shoes, with a total value exceeding $200,000.
However, investigators have alleged that Wendy and Edward—parents to Karter, 11, Kruz, 9, and Kamrynn, 5—made false claims. "During the course of the investigation, Detectives uncovered that over $20,000 worth of the items reported stolen had actually been returned by the owners to the stores where they were originally purchased," the Sheriff’s Office statement continued on Facebook. "Furthermore, Detectives discovered images of a homeowner donning jewelry that had been reported stolen subsequent to the burglary."
Moreover, Wendy and Edward allegedly sought to claim $450,000 in personal property loss from their insurance, according to prosecutors’ bail recommendation documents obtained by TMZ.
The couple is scheduled to appear back in court in November, as indicated by online court records.
