Rick Moranis, the beloved star of 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,' has largely shunned the limelight, absent from live-action films since the 1990s. However, he was recently spotted enjoying a rare public outing in New York City.

On Friday, November 15, the 71-year-old acting legend was photographed taking a leisurely stroll through Manhattan. Bundled up to keep warm, Moranis wore a cozy brown jacket paired with dark brown gloves, a vibrant green hat, green-brown pants, and sturdy brown shoes. Adding a touch of sophistication, he accessorized with brown-framed glasses and carried a practical black tote bag.

Moranis first garnered widespread acclaim for his role in the 1984 hit 'Ghostbusters,' where he starred alongside icons like Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. This success paved the way for a string of other popular movies throughout the '80s and '90s, including 'The Flintstones,' 'Parenthood,' 'Little Shop of Horrors,' and, of course, 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.'

However, following the tragic death of his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, in 1991, Moranis chose to step away from Hollywood to focus on raising his children. While he did lend his voice to a few roles in the 2000s, he largely remained out of the public eye and off-screen. In a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he reflected on this transition, saying, "I took a break, which turned into a longer break. Stuff happens to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change careers, move to another city. Really, that's all I did."

Moranis expressed no regrets about shifting his focus from movies to his family, saying, "I was working with really interesting people, wonderful people. I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful."

In 2020, it was announced by The Hollywood Reporter that Moranis would reprise his iconic role as Wayne Szalinski in a reboot of 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' titled 'Shrunk,' alongside Josh Gad. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scheduling conflicts, and budget issues, the film's release has been delayed. As of November 2024, it remains in pre-production, according to IMDB.

Earlier in June, Amy O'Neill, who played the daughter of Moranis' character in the original film, spoke fondly of her time working with the actor. "Rick was always warm but respectful, always kind, professional, and on his game. I'm so proud to have called him Dad," she told PEOPLE.
