According to a recent report, Romy Reiner, the youngest child of the late actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, was unaware that her mother had also been murdered in the Los Angeles home where she discovered her father's body on Sunday afternoon, December 14th. The 27-year-old Romy arrived at the Brentwood residence after being contacted by a massage therapist who was unable to access the property.
Upon arriving at the home and discovering her father's body, Romy reportedly "fled" without realizing that her mother Michele was also deceased inside, as later revealed to her by a paramedic, according to a source close to the family.
PEOPLE previously reported that Romy discovered Rob's body on Sunday afternoon, hours before her brother Nick was located and arrested by police near the University of Southern California campus at around 9:15 p.m. that evening. Nick, who was not present at the time of the discovery, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation of using a knife on Tuesday, December 16th. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has not ruled out the possibility of seeking the death penalty in this case, stating that "prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes." Rob Reiner, one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation, was murdered along with his wife of over 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner. Their deaths are shocking and tragic, and we owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.
