When contacted by PEOPLE, the public information officer of the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that "the location of the suspect's arrest was in the Exposition Park area near USC." It was previously reported by PEOPLE that Nick was taken into police custody on December 14, hours after Rob and Michele were found deceased in their home on Sunday afternoon. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that their bodies were discovered at around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, and Nick was subsequently identified as the suspect.

On Sunday, Nick was charged with murder in connection with his parents' deaths. He is currently being held without bond in Los Angeles' Twin Towers Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, December 16, according to a source.

The night before the tragic incident, Nick, Michelle, and Rob all attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O'Brien, where Nick and Rob got into a "monumental fight," as shared by two sources who were present at the party. "Nick was causing a scene, acting erratically, and kept asking people if they were famous," one of the sources recounted.

Rob and Michele married in 1989 and had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Prior to marrying Michele, Rob was married to Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. During their marriage, Rob adopted her daughter, Tracy. Nick has previously spoken out about his struggles with addiction and homelessness, starting in his teenage years. As his addiction intensified, Nick said he gradually drifted away from home and spent considerable periods living unsheltered in various states.
