Robert Pattinson harbors no ambition to embody an aged Batman. The esteemed actor, who donned the Dark Knight's cape in Matt Reeves' 2022 blockbuster hit, "The Batman," recently delved into the progress of the highly anticipated sequel while engaging in a conversation with his "Mickey 17" co-star Naomi Ackie for "Hero" magazine. When probed about a potential swift return to the superhero's shoes, Pattinson quipped, "I bloody hope so," adding with a chuckle, "I embarked on this journey as a youthful Batman, and by the time the sequel rolls around, I'll be portraying a bloody old Batman."
"I'm 38, I'm ancient," the "Twilight" sensation quipped, before qualifying his statement, "Old, but fitter than ever. I fancy I've managed to shave a few years off my biological clock."
The sequel to "The Batman" has been in the works for quite some time, with production tentatively slated to commence in the third quarter of 2025. After numerous postponements, the film is now targeted for a cinematic release in October 2027. Although this sequel falls outside the DC universe helmed by James Gunn and his DC counterpart Peter Safran, Gunn has previously elucidated that the delays stemmed from Reeves' relentless pursuit of script perfection.
"Matt is unwavering in his quest to craft the finest film conceivable, and predicting the precise timeline for scriptwriting is an exercise in futility," the "Superman" director revealed on Threads in December. "Once the script is polished, approximately two years are dedicated to pre-production, filming, and post-production for blockbusters of this magnitude."
Disappointing some fans, Gunn subsequently justified the delay, pensively noting, "A five-year gap or longer between sequels is a rather common occurrence."
Post-"The Batman's" 2022 debut, the film garnered critical acclaim and box office triumph, amassing over $772 million worldwide.
