The 41-year-old father, who shares parenting duties for his children—Caiden Zane, aged 8, Liv Rae, 6, and the toddler Georgie June, 2—with his estranged spouse Kayla Reid, has confided in detail about how he "plummeted into an abyss of despair" in the wake of a devastating car accident that occurred in November 2023. Beyond the shattering of his femur, Ryan unveiled that this traumatic ordeal catapulted him into a profound depression, which "cleared the path for a descent into substance abuse."

Reflecting on his decision to enter a treatment facility, he elaborated, "Amidst the chaos in my life, I knew I needed to make a transformative change, a drastic one at that." He praised the rehab staff for their exceptional support, saying, "They were incredible. They illuminated for me that substance abuse isn't a remedy; it's merely a distraction that exacerbates problems."

Ryan further highlighted how seeking help has profoundly benefited his mental well-being, asserting that he's feeling "remarkably better." "My thoughts are clear, I'm inspired, and I'm striding ahead," said the gold medalist. "It's not about how you fall, but how you rise and persist, improving yourself daily, taking one step forward at a time. And that's precisely what I'm doing."

Having previously undergone treatment for alcoholism in 2018, Ryan has also embarked on a new romantic journey since Kayla, 34, filed for divorce earlier this year. After hinting at his relationship with Molly Gillihan in July, he officially introduced her on Instagram by posing with his new girlfriend amidst a sun-dappled meadow at dusk.

Captioning the August 28th photo, he wrote, "Happiness suits me well. I tune out the external clutter." He added a winking emoji and continued, "With you, I'm all smiles, even when faced with obstacles hurled our way."
